I have one of these from Radio Shack. I have an aluminum project box. How are these connectors meant to be mounted? From the inside out through a hole? Or just on the outside of the case?

Either way. If your hole is very tidy, mount on the inside so everybody can admire your sheet metal work. If the hole is ragged, mount on the outside and hide the ugly.

Yeah I am thinking outside. :)

But what is the best way to cut that hole? I have a cheap Harbor Freight nibbler but it is not doing such a good job on the metal I picked up. I think it is a bit too thick for the nibbler.

@retched, Yep, we can depend on you to put a square peg in a round hole.

I use layout ink for a very fine line on the inside, rough the hole to shape, and a file for finishing. For roughing, a scroll saw is my favorite, or one can use nibblers, drills, etc. Cover any painted surface with tape so as not to scratch it.

I use a hole saw. Will have to try a punch-out kit, retched.
PS: what is your name? not used to forums with handles that aren't a person's name...

Dremel is your friend too. Think sculpting skills.

I second Bill suggestion of a Dremel for non-round openings!

Hugs and kisses to you too John!

ACTUALLY, my punch kit does have square dies.

Greenlee baby! (That means OUCH, that was expensive)

And tyblu, ask my mom... She calls me retched.. And i'm not kidding.

The name is Richard. Use it as you wish.
