I have a device that requires a button to be pressed to power it on and pressed again to power it off. It is going to be attached to my car's 12v power. Is it possible to rig some kind of circuit to power the device off when the car is off and on when the car is on? I am willing to open and mess with the device's board to get it working.

Would not shorting the button's contacts work, assuming power is cut when the car is off? This would mean the circuit is off (no power) when the car is off...

Also, I'm going to assume you mean the cigarette lighter is the power source, since that is the extent of automotive discussions allowed here...
