I am looking for a portable (miniature) SVGA monitor.
needs to support 800x600, and have an analog VGA (HD15) input.
preferably it would be really small (mobile phone size?).

That's a lot of pixels per inch to have mobile phone size with 600x800. What is the 'retina' display pixel density?

The only super- small display I could imagine is if you hack a panel from an LCD projector and add your own frame and backlight. You can get some used projectors cheap as the users replace them with higher resolution models.

thank you all for great ideas. I guess the smallest "normal" monitors available are 7"..8" like NightOwl or Lilliput. lower res would work great if there was a way to pan ( I don't need to see entire screen at the same time, sounds like another FPGA project). I did not even think of projectors - cool idea.

just found VGA2USB (always have laptop with me anyway). although not standalone device, it looks like a neat option because it is small and robust, plus no separate power cable is needed.
