You are asking a question that you can answer by doing some research. The number of applications is much too large to condense into a list. Google finds 12,300,000 hits on "microprocessor applications". Here is #2 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microprocessor

Pretty much anything that is too small for a full computer to fit in it. From a vacuum cleaner and a digital watch, to your car and television.
    Take your pick!

They are produced to simplify the circuit by gathering many digital devices (counters, memories, gates.. etc) in one IC. And the interconnections among the internal blocks can be determined and altered easily by programming the IC with the appropriate instructions (code, firmware). The main pins on these ICs are for digital input/output (some of them may have an extra function as for interrupt, serial data, ADC.. etc.)

    Hello,

Many student in class these question, what the need of studing this typical subject...??
Because as we see to make any electronics project it is no easy to make or control huge data or operation for this the circuit will be complicated & will take more time. for removing this microprocessor was invented after this in build micro controller were build which has all devices in single chip like memory, input output devices,etc.....

check this video without using an up or uc....

if this circuit use an controller it will be easy and nice looking...!!
