Hey, a few guys in my engineering department gave me a mastech m300 multimeter for free. Of course they don't have the manual for it.

I am slightly confused as to the settings. Here is a large picture of the multimeter.

If anyone has used it before perhaps you can explain a few settings to me.

First of all, there are 4 modes at the top sliding switch. From right. Resistance, Probably DC, and AC. and then a 4th mode on the far left which is totally unknown to me.

Then the sliding wheel. From top to bottom.

Continuity check. I know what that is.

2 volts. and 2 killo-ohms. So the smallest it can measure is 2 kohms?

Well the wheel is sorta self explainatory. But what I want to know is where do I switch to measure current. The sliding switch seems to say voltage only.

Anyway can someone either explain or link me to a manual of it. I tried searching online and only found a schematic of it, which doesn't help me.

    Thank you

    Hello,

They call this type of multimeter a 2000 counts one.
This means in the 2KOhm range it will measure from 0.001 to 1.999 KOhms.
So the smallest resistor you van measure is 1 Ohm.

    Greetings,
    Bertus

Thank you. But what about the other settings? How do I measure current? What do the settings on the sliding switch at the top mean?

If anyone has a manual for this, and wouldn't mind taking a picture of it, or scanning it, can you please do that? Or if anyone knows a manual online.

Mastech.com had one but the link doesn't work :(

    Hello,

I have drawn some comments in the picture of the multimeter.

Awesome thanks!!! Now I can finally organize my collection of resistors.

LOL. I mean seriously, some of those color bands, you don't know what color they are. I sometimes wonder whether color blind people can be electrical engineers, or do they have to have someone write the resistance on each resistor for them. I'm not color blind, but sometimes its just as hard to tell if its violet or brown or whatever.
