    Hello world :)

I am researching an idea that i had, for a simple mailbox notifier, which would turn on a light when mail has been received. However, it appears to be less simple than i would have thought. As with almost everything else :)

Anyway, i was wondering if any of you knew if it is possible to use a magnetic switch to turn a light on, but not off, without the use of an expensive board like Arduino.

In short, i want to turn a light on using a switch, but only off using another switch. Can that be done in an elegant and simple way?

It can be done without electronics using a mechanical relay, wired to function as a latching relay.

I'd consider a light detector for your trigger. I think you could use a comparator to latch - requiring a manual reset - once the light detector triggers. What sort of light are you planning on, and how will you power it?
