I would like to build a home make windmill .
So which motor is best to use (1) Stepper motor (2) DC motor?

Is this for decorative use and the motor will be used to turn the blades ? In that case, personally I would choose a geared DC motor. It would need to be able to turn the blades in wind, at a reasonably slow rate.

 

For picture of a small motor driven windmill look at Bernard's Projects- Albums. Wheel 6 in dia., also pumps water as it turns.

 

I expect he wants a generator, not a motor driven windmill.

In either case, a DC motor is better.

Use a treadmill motor. They have magnets inside so are more suited for this task.

Like to a make Generator to charge Gel cell battery 6volt 1.2ah or 12 volt 1.2 ah.
