LEDs... resistors not necessary with constant current driver, right?

Is the chip not being disclosed for $$ sake?
I use TLC5940 from TI and it is a constant current sink... no resistor needed per LED nor any benefit from using them in my experience. The NT part number (DIP28) it is discontinued but still around. It has 64 step constant current sink (dot correction) which adjust the brightness variations between channels and they can be daisy chained.
One resistor for max current of all 16 channels.
Nifty little chip for light controllers. They also come in various packages - QFN if you need to keep it small.
