LED fader up/down

    I have a question.. I was going to do this using a Hex Schmitt Trigger that's inverted.

    here is the schematic I'm using the CD40106BE I can't really find info on it as in how I should connect the pins.

    Find the datasheets for the parts you're using it will tell you what the pins are and what numbers they are.

    To sit here and actually list how to connect those pins would take forever.

    The caps that are black/white (C1, C5) are electrolyitc and polarized so they must be connected right or they explode. The black part is the negative/ground side.

    You can find data sheets for almost all electronic devices with a simple search. I Googled "CD40106BE datasheet" and got here:

    Thanks for the attachment... one thing that confuses me is on you see U1a in my attachment? So if I have it right one wire goes to A and the output would be on G-A right? Which would correspond to pins 1 & 2?

    Also the settime the wiper and the one end of the leg are connected together from u1a?

    I added pin #'s according to attached Functional Diagram such that U1a-1 is input, U1a-2 is output, which goes to 100k variable resistor. U1b-4, output of square wave generator is integrated by R3, C4, divided & level shifted by 100k, R5, R6, double inverted, buffered by Q1 & Q2, finally to M1- LED driver.

    I'm not getting anything.. I'm using a IRF510 instead of the fet's the gate is connected to pin 8 and drain is connected to LED (-) and source to (+)

    Source is to ground, LED anode to +V. Did you leave out Q1 & Q2?

    I left out Q1 and Q2 because first of all I picked up Q2 and it does not have the requirements for it's collect current my strip pulls about 880 mA and it's only rated for like 600 mA.

    So I was just going to use the mosfet instead.

    however just checking I'm only getting like 5v on the gate and nothing on the drain to source.

    Results depend on what type of meter is used; at 50% duty an analog meter would read around 5V. If a peak detector is used, diode & cap, should read about 10V; best to use an O-scope. ' do'nt believe a 40106 is a verry good gate driver operating at 20 kHz.

    I have to check again when I get back home but I think it has something to due in the area of R2 & R3 and/or R5/R6

    I think it's U1b and U1c the connection to the pin is after and not between the resistors just to be sure I'm going to bring out the o-scope.
