I'm starting on a project, a small device for the elderly.

It comprises of the following:
- Battery
- 2 Led
- Buzzer
- ACCELROMETER ( To guage movement of person)
- PROXIMITY SENSOR (To guage if somthing come near around 1.6M)
- Microprosessor

My questions are:
1) To guage movement/no movement what is the best way, ACCELROMETER?
2) Whats is the best sensor type PROXIMITY? 1.6M, moving
3) What else do I need?
4) Can someone help share what is the best electronics to to fit this project from http://singapore.rs-online.com

Thanks, its to be mounted on a wheel chair.
It will have the following states:
- Off (Inactivity for 30sec)
- On (Any Movement)-LED State, Flicker
- On (When any object comes in within 1.6M infront) - LED state, On/High - Buzzer-On

How precise do you need the distance measurement? "1.6M" sort of implies maybe 1.5-1.7M, which I think would require ultrasonic range detection. If you just mean "close", like an IR motion detector, well then you could use an IR motion detector.
