    Hi all,

Is electromyography (EMG) used for monitoring Skeletal muscle activity only or can it also be used to monitor Smooth and Cardiac muscle activity?

Hopefully someone with some bio-engineering background will be able to help me here.

If you search on the organ you are interested in, for example "esophagus emg," you will find numerous studies.

EMG is usually used to monitor muscle activity and although the heart is muscular its activity is monitored using ECG.

Have a look here for related articles. They are well written and easily understood.
