Attached is a photo of an IR sensor; I see an F on the side and 15Y2 on the top, but googling didn't turn up anything. I have reason to believe it's 38kHz. The photo shows it as a yellow metal, but that's just bad lighting; it's silver colored.

Does anyone know it?

Yep it's a very common 3-pin IR receiver, as sold on ebay.

I think that package is made by a few Chinese/Taiwan manufacturers so the part number is not critical, they are all the same pinout and same function.
