I know this sounds like a stretch, but is there a "cheap" way to measure insertion loss.
As far as I know, the equipment you'll need is the following:
Frequency Source
Network Analyzer
Detector with calibration source
Reflection Bridge
Co-Axial short
And finally, the cable under test.
Is there an alternative method that is within a $5000 budget?
