What is the impedance of a series combination of 100ohms and 10uF with a source of 60Hz??

I am lost on seting up the formula for this one.
    Help???

    Hi,

The capacitive reactance (Xc) = 1/2pi F C. Just add the answer to the value of the resistance.

Shouldn't it be R - jXc instead of straight sum R + Xc?

I agree with N93 ... It would be R -j ... not some straight addition.

Navyman ... you should review NEETS module 2 ... Introduction to Alternating Current and Transformers ... Chapter 4, Inductive and Capacitive Reactance should talk about impedance of the series circuit you described.

If not the NEETS books, try http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_2/chpt_4/3.html on this site.
