Hi,

I'm thinking of doin a design project on a controller for an automatic air conditioning system. It is suppose to sense the room temprature and if it is above or below a certain preset level of temp, it shoud produce a heating or cooling effects by activating a heater or a fan until the preset level is reached. So what do you think are my options with regard to setting the controller to maintain the room temprature at different levels as required by the user

A simple thermostat performs the function. A programmable thermostat affords the user the mans of controlling room temp in his absence.

In the days of the Apple II, I saw a project using a 2 watt resistor as a temperature controller. The computer used it to control house temperature by reading a LM34 and putting current through the resistor (located inside the thermostat cover) to fool it into thinking the house temperature was at setpoint.
