Hi, I know that this thread is from last year but I have a similar challenge and I wounder how you did it an if you could help me out.
The difference would be that I want to use an electronic hoist or a winch to drop and raise the same object in every 10 minutes.
Do you have a suggestion how to do it in a simple way? Thank you.

There are gazillion different ways to hoist an object.

There is only one way to hoist anything with an electric motor: with an electric motor.

 

How heavy?
How far?
Power source?

Thank you for your comments. I will attach a sketch maybe it will help you to understand it better.
I would need to create this for a performance. The textile material would be ~7x7m and total weight ~5kg.
The idea was to hack the electric hoist in a way that when it remains without electricity than it would have a free rotation (removing the security lock), so the textile can fall by its gravity and when it receives again electricity to draw the cable back, lifting the textile up.
