Hi, Maya. Welcome to the forum! This might help. The outputs of the 3-state buffers are enabled by the decoder, otherwise they are in floating state. This allows all the outputs to be connected together. Whatever line is selected by the decoder input is fed to the output. It could well be a data stream. The major use of a Mux is to send multiple data streams over a single wire. That's how the phone company can use a single wire for many many phonecalls.
