i need help on a project on how to turn-on/off a 220v device using a 82c55

    hey guyz, im kinda new here and im just wondering if i can bump into some help regarding our project, im just wondering how can i activate a 220v air pump if it is interfaced with a 82c55 through a ISA port, i know this is kinda jurassic but this thing is driving me nuts.... can somebody help me about this? thanx in advance...

    Well one way is to use a solid state relay. This would allow the low voltage/ low power 82C55 to turn on the relay which controls the high voltage AC to the air compressor. The SS relay has to be sized for the voltage and current requirements of the air compressor. Here is an example of such a SS relay. Note that the relay needs to be mounted to a large metal surface to act like a heat sink for higher current applications.
