is this forum still active? I'm newbee here and I have a same problem too.
I have an idea to convert ethernet to TTL, but I don't know how it's it. I've seen a project to send data through serial port with hyperterminal and the cable was replaced with LED as transmitter and phototransistor as receiver. Data from serial was converted to TTL with max232.

but ethernet is different from serial. I don't care with connection speed. But I want use TCP/IP protocol in Li-fi/VLC project. Is there any solutions? thx~

    Mods Note:
This thread was split from -- Working on Li-Fi (or VLC), need some help here.

You can use TCP/IP over a serial port. IIRC RFC #1055, by Romkey lays out a procedure for doing just that.

It can send and receive UDP frames. All the other protocols like TCP/IP and HTTP and FTP are built with similar structures. So the answer is yes.
