The member list does not have an entry for "emc-2". The OP has not completed registration.

 

If thought it was weird that emc-2 showed up in the "auto-complete" when searching, but not in the member list.

The user "emc-2" has not completed the registration procedure.
He has to use the link in the e-mail send to him to confirm his identity.
Sometimes this email gets lost in the spam-filters of some providers.
This happens sometimes with e-mail adresses at free e-mail providers.
