    I got these wire-board connectors:
    http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=16M2932
Without really thinking of how they are connected to the wire. I assume I need some kind of special "wire insertion" tool. It already has the contacts. Is there a makeshift way of inserting the wires into this thing? I don't even know how a wire insertion tool is supposed to work.

    Thanks

I believe u have to take out the pin and crimp the wire and reinsert it into the socket

The specifications indicate that it's an insulation displacement termination (IDT). You should refer to the manufacturer's data for methods and tools.

This is what I believe to be the tool for
insertion. I recently had to get one myself.

It is not obvious from datasheet of connector
what is needed for insertion of wires. Basically
I did the same thing, bought the connectors then
    said WTH (what the heck)?.

The links in the datasheet will lead you to the correct hand punch down tool.

Aha. I was hoping I could find a way to do it without buying the tool and that data sheet seems to explain how it's done. So let's hope I figure something out. If not I'll just but it. Thanks.

If you have a cheap flat blade screwdriver to sacrifice and some skill with a rotary tool cutoff grinder, you can make the tool you need. Be sure to wear your safety glasses.
