How to troubleshooting MAX485 and 555 Timer

there is not much to it, get the datasheets, and familiarize yourself with them, then take your tools (multimeter, oscilloscope) and check if the devices work as expected (check power, signal waveforms, etc.). if needed (MAX485) introduce signals to it's inputs (ensure they are proper levels) and check response.
