Please anybody tell me how to programme a micro controller to perform a specific operation and which equipment is used to programme a micro controller.

I think some more information is needed. Are you new to MCUs and want to start programming as a hobbyist, or is this a school project? Both is OK, so you do not have lie about your situation.

And the type of MCU would help.

Many microcontrollers contain internal non-volatile electrically eraseable RAM that contains the program.

To program them, you need to use a special circuit and you need the specific external program that will operate the programming circuitry to erase any existing microcontroller program, then write in the new program.

Often the external program combines a high-level language editor, an assembler specific to that microcontroller, and the code that communicates with the actual programming circuitry.

Other microcontrollers read their code from external memory. They will be programmed however the external memory was designed to work - some may be electrically eraseable, some ultra-violet-eraseable, some are one-time-programmed.
