How to make a DC motor timer?

If the motor is driven by a transistor you might be able to run it ( the motor ) on a single battery with a smaller battery for the 555, say use a c cell for the motor and in series with it a AA or AAA to get the voltage to run the 555.

But why not get a 5 volt wall wart power supply and run the whole thing off of 5 volts. A second 555 timer would let you use pwm to control the speed of the fan, or maybe with good speed control you would let it run all the time.

Project completed using drawing on pg. 19. !000 uF for 555 shrunk to .033 for 4060. Running on 2 parallel " C's " & 1 "N".

Rechargeable AA's are above the 2AH capacity now due to their popularity, which is about the capacity of a "C" cell, plus, they are rechargeable.

A better fan blade would also boost everything, requiring much less run time and speed. Salvage a miniature muffin fan from a 5V CPU Cooler, which will run at 2.5-3V just fine, and move a lot more air around for a given power draw than the existing design.
