Try the simulation using a resistor instead of the relay coil.

 

Also, double check the connections on the darlington version. Make sure the relay coil is in series with the darlington rather than in parallel with it.

 

thanks guys... You know, I am new to using Electronic Workbench (Multisim). And there are way too many components to choose from. I gotta look into where they have datasheets for each component. THanks for your inputs. And regarding relays, It is working now. There was some problem wit the connections..
