The steepness of the cutoff is determined by the number of poles or orders the fiter is made with.
The sharpness of the cutoff corner is determined by whether the filter is a Bessel or a Butterworth type of filter.

Do you happen to have a particular filter circuit for which you would like to derive the transfer function?
