I've seen wiring like this in Thailand. Just shows how survivable the human race is.

You haven't lived until you have seen bell wire run under wallpaper to a ceiling fixture.

Or gone up in the attic to find romex soldered to knot-and-tube wiring - the ground wire dangling and big, furry joints because someone used acid core solder (didn't buy that house).
