how to convert a dc motor

    hi im trying to convert a 3.3 hp dc motor to, permanate magnets. it now has electro magnet coils.. how do u do this so the magnets are the right size and strength to give the same emf as the electo magnets in it now. any help or advice will be welcome, im using this for a wind turbine..zeke

    Is this a series or shunt motor? Operating V & current? Can you give us a semi scale drawing of end view of frame, with pole pieces? May require machining off some of back of pole pieces to make room for flat magnets.

    It will probably take less work to build a generator from scratch than to convert that motor to permanent magnet, at least to have anything like reasonable efficiency.

    There are quite a few designs online that use an easy to build disc rotor system, eg.
