In one forum told me how to check N channel mosfet but i see "strange" items with a diode for Gate protection between G and S. Is the way the same?

About MOS transistors is the rule for MOSFET valid because when i type how to check mos transistors in google on first page i see only results with MOSFET?

I know the following :
short between G and S and measure resistance between D and S. Big (must) and maybe small.
Charge with battery + G and - S and then measure small resistance in the both directions.
