Over the past year I have bought several buck converter, and I can't seem to get them to work. I am using a Velleman 1A power supply to convert 18 v AC to 12 v DC to run a time delay circuit. I then want to drop the 12 v dc to 5 v dc. When i connect the 12 v out of the power supplyto the in of the buck converter and try to adjust the out voltage of the buck converter by turning the pot, I get no change in voltage. Am I missing something, or am I just unlucky. I guess I don't need to add that I am inexperienced!

    Thanks

Can't tell you how unlucky you are until you post a circuit diagram of what you have.
    What buck converter?

Most switching power supply circuits need a minimum load to function correctly.
