Keep in mind that there are USB, Serial and Keyboard input Barcode Scanners. By far, the Keyboard type is the easiest to use. This is because they will output to any text editor that currently has the focus. They require no drivers or dedicated software. Creating a barcode is another story. That requires a printer app that's supplied by the manufacturer.
