    Hi guys,

Any ideas of what sensor to use (except an encoder) to sense the home position of a machine within 0.1mm?

    Thanks.

There are high precision limit switches available from a number of companies.. Omron/Euchner-usa/Omega and others that will have no problem with that.
It's really the repeat accuracy you are concerned with.

    How about optical/slot photosensors?

Sure.. they ain't cheap though.. These omron ones go for about $1,000 each. but have 1um repeatability
