I need to switch something at 600-800 amps I think a high current SCR would be ideal for my needs but they are expensive even on ebay. I was wondering about other switching options.

What voltage? Switching at what speed and frequency?

No it won´t work, it is just a diode, you can´t switch anything with it.

How long will the current last? Maybe just few paralleled mosfets or IGBTs rated for the voltage could do it.
