If you'd like to simply mute your system upon an incoming phone call, one simple way to do so is to use relays in something similar to an "in use" circuit. when the line is in use, or a call comes in, if built correctly, it should turn on the relay(s) which you may run your speakers or audio output through. Same thing for the pause functions, just fancier as you would have to hook up a small separate circuit to the internal pause button of your system. Circuits like this are all over Google. Otherwise, if you can get a measurement of the frequency of the output signal from the remote when the pause button is pushed, just duplicate it in another circuit to implement to you design. Hope this helps, if you haven't already figured something out that is. Otherwise, these could be some future reference ideas.
