I have a pic16f877-20/p...where can I download a program that will allow me to program my microcontroller in C language

never mind..ive just gotten mplab ide..but now I have a new problem..the only option available in the menu are com ports(serial) but what I have is a lpt port(parallel)..anyone knows how I will get around this?

your first option is to use an external freeware'd programmer like

the hardware supported inside MPLAB is generally not of a kit nature, some efforts over the years have worked, but none stick in my mind.
I ended up going with an ICD2, but that requires a monetry level of commitment that may be more than you're prepared to accept, in my opinion though it is worth it. same can be said for a C compiler that runs as a tool inside MPLAB.
