    Hi,

I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction regarding reviving my receiver. If this is not the appropriate forum for this topic, I understand, and I'd be grateful to know another site to look for some help.

I am not an electronics person, and don't have experience fixing them. I would love though to be able to fix the receiver if it is within my capabilities.

I have a Sony STR-5800SD that I got at a yard sale. It worked for the first 6 months or so, besides a couple of missing knobs and a recurring issue (it would start to sound muffled, I'd stick a flathead screwdriver to where the balance knob used to be, and the sound would come back) it worked nicely. Then it just stopped working. Whenever it's turned on, a "ping" sound comes from the receiver, and that's it. The lights turn on but no sound from the speakers.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Zach

Open the receiver and post well focused photographs of the electronics.
