Help with symbols

    I am going to start work on building a amplifier I have found in a electronics book, the picture of the schematic is below. I am not sure however what a particular symbol means, could somebody elaborate...
    the symbol is circled in red, The problem is I don't know how to wire the capacitor to that resistor?

    That's a variable resistor called a potentiometer or "pot". The terminal with the arrow is the wiper, the part that moves when you twist the knob and on typical round pots it's terminal 2 or the center terminal.
