Help with renesas microcontroller

Hi, i'm new on the forum. I need some help using a Renesas H8 microcontroller, in particular don't know how to use an input port and a time counter; i need these features because i want to evaluate the output of a TOF sensor (sonar) that is a simple HIGH signal with TTL level.
I hope someone could help me.
