Doing a personal project and need a specific keypad for use in this project. Don't really know much about electronics but I've done a bunch of Arduino stuff previously (I'm sure that just make me dangerous).

I'm hoping to use this keypad: http://www.gravitech.us/12bumake6.html

I don't have a micro-controller, I was just hopping to get data to go from the keypad to an RS232 port. Is this possible?

Could I use something like this: http://www.letsbuyit.co.uk/product/26979157/plugs-travel-adaptors/d-sub-cable-9-pin-connectorsocket

Or is an intermediary micro-controller absolutely required for something like this.

    Thanks

Your Arduino would make a fine keyboard matrix scanner / debouncer for that keypad.

You could do what you're proposing, but it would take a pile of logic chips. Are you sure you wouldn't prefer to use a processor?
