Help please - 220v 500W Ac motor- how to control?

Hi

Please help me urgently, I am not an electrical background. I need to control motor speed of a 240V 500W Ac motor, using an arduino, Please suggest me the easiest way to do this please.

if it's 3 phase, that may be a bit hard. If it's just simply a motor where connected to mains, it works, I'd recommend just simply hooking up a relay and a transistor with resistor at the base to amplify the current from the arduino in order to drive the relay. If you're going to PWM it, i recommend getting a TRIAC optocoupler, an appropriate series resistor and a TRIAC to drive the motor. Then you can hook up the arduino without worrying about it getting blown up.

BUT HOLD ON A SECOND. You said you're not familiar with electronics. You shouldn't be playing with mains electricity. Get someone else to do it unless you're an adult and have studied exactly what you need to do. It's (obviously) dangerous.
