If it's within your budget, you'd be best off with a temperature controlled iron, try to look for a second hand Weller... they're not too expensive on E-bay.

is the butane one effective as the electrical one ?

Yes, butane works fine, especially if you do lots of field soldering, or only solder once in a while. When it comes to a solder station for the workbench, I would go electric.

As bance said, temp controlled is the way to go. However, not all wellers are temp controlled, so be careful.

As a note, that iron I listed is indeed temp controlled and I have used one many times with great results.
