The voltage gain of a simple common-emitter transistor amplifier is simply the ratio of two resistors including the small resistance of the transistor.
The transistor must be properly biased.

The spec's for the transistor amplifier should also say the amount of input impedance and amount of load resistance. It should also say the amount of output level.

Look in your text book or look online at Common Emitter Transistor Amplifier, sketch a circuit and attach it here for us to see how well you understand it.
