Hey I am setting up a hall effect sensor with my raspberry pi using this how to:
http://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2015/09/how-to-use-a-hall-effect-sensor-with-the-raspberry-pi/

It says to put a 10 k resistor in series of the vcc and the vout, but when I do this I don't see a change in voltage when I put a magnet by the sensor. But I notice a change in voltage when I put the magnet by the sensor with no resistor, do I need this resistor, or should it be a very high resistor such as a 100M ohm one?

The output shows a open drain FET output, and a output current of 30ma-60ma so a resistor can be sized accordingly, if you do not use anything on the output I can see unpredictable results, the resistor is the normal way to go.
I can think of no reason why you did not see any output?
Max.
