I am using wavecom M1306B GSM module to send SMS's.
It is complete module, just inset SIM card & send SMS using AT commands.

But it is very power consuming.

1. Is there any method by which it can be send to low power mode to reduce power consumption. I am using batteries so minimum power is best.

2. Is there any other low power GSM module which can be interfaced by UART protocol with microcontroller

GSM modems are normally take higher power than other communication modules because of the higher transmitted power. What is the power your module is taking? If you can share that I can probably suggest something.

There are lots of GSM modules that you can interface to MCUs, for example the SIM900s that we use regularly.
