I am looking at building a gradiometer for archeology. The circuit I will use was designed many years ago by Carl Moreland and a kit of parts, fluxgate sensors etc. is available from Speake & Co in the UK. Part of the circuit uses an SCL007 chip that has a digital output to allow the connection of a data logger. I am ok with regard to the analogue circuit, but fall down completely on digital. How would I connect and programme it say using a PICAXE chip as a datalogger. The basic circuit can be found here. http://www.alphageofisica.com.br/geometrics/magnetometro/gradiometro/gradiometro_note.htm

I would use the Arduino line. There are "shields" available that do data logging to SD cards. There are LCD displays available. Programming is easy to learn following many worked out examples...
