    Hi guys

Does any one know how a generator AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) bench tester works ?. I am planing to build one to test AVR's instead of having to connect them to a generator each time i want to test one.

    Thanks in advance.

What kind of AVR are you testing? Do these control a gas generator by sensing 120Vac?

Yes... but to be specific, it's 240VAC for diesel gensets

You would have to know a lot about how the specific Generator works. There are hundreds of different types and models...
Some sense frequency and control throttle/fuel, at the same time they sense voltage and control field excitation. Some sense load current, and add that to the control algorithm.

A test box would have to simulate the dynamics of the engine/generator combo...
