why don't we use transistors made of germanium. As all said that IC's are made of silicon, so that to get accurate outputs we are using only silicon transistors.
But i have a doubt, can't we use a germanium transistor in a circuit which consist of a Ge diode? Then we can avoid shottkey diode for Si transistor.we can use a normal Ge diode for Ge transistor.

The use of germanium transistors was discontinued in favor of silicon transistors when is was found that germanium transistors were more sensitive to thermal drift. This happened very early in the evolution of the transistor. I think that by the late 1960's, silicon was well on its way to becoming the dominant transistor constituent.
