I have to call you on that one, my friend. Now you're in my area of expertise. It is very unlikely that the gator you saw was 16ft. in length.....I'm not calling you a liar but it would be like seeing a unicorn.
Unless you taped the reptile and have some documentation.
Being that close to the water in a little kayak with a large gator next to you.....also getting into the water...it probably looked like a 20 ft gator........
Ive spent a lot of days and nights looking and documenting gators and we never could document anything over 16ft. 3 inches.....and that length was told to me by a reputable source at the Louisiana Parks and Wildlife.....
If you could go back to the place where you saw that big boy and get some pics for a reference ...and document it....then you, my friend, would make the news....
It's not the size...it's the years....
Juvies tend to be greener for camo purposes, I suppose....
Not to say that some of the older ones don't get that black look.....
Sometimes it's also environmental....
Nothing in nature looks the same.
But juvies have that clean shiny look.....
