firing circuit for rectifiers using Atmega 16 microcontroller

    I'm working on this project in the initial stages. Can u provide me any block diagram as to start with? Also comment on the microcontroller Atmega 16 as is it okay to be used for this purpose

    I am going to take inputs for firing angles required then frequency of applied signal will be calculated using ZCD. IR2184 driver ic's will be used at the outputs of microcontroller. The same circuit should work for controlled HWR,FWR and semicontrolled rectifier also.
    Major components will be(as far I can judge): Atmega 32, keys for navigation(to increase or decrease firing angle), LCD display, atmost (in case of 3 phase) three IR2184 driver ICs, ZCD(as an interrupt input to microcontroller)

    Can u also suggest me which ports should be used for what particular interfacing so that the microcontoller features will be exploited more?
