finding current with 2 current sources and 2 resistors

can someone explain these current source directions and the flow directions? I expect the right and left sides and be broken up or should the sources be combined somehow?

As a starting point you could convert the left hand 4mA source and 5K resistor to a Thevenin equivalent - the method of solving from there may then become clearer.
